Welcome to Cottlestone!

Cottlestone Apiary is a local-owned business based on a family farm just outside of Duncan, BC. Our honey is drawn from the wildflowers of Vancouver Island, mostly from the area around the Cottlestone farm and from the heritage Keating Farm Estate in the Cowichan Valley, as well as small holdings spread across southern Vancouver Island.

The core of our workforce is made up of over 1.5 million full-time employees, most of them bees, who come from a family tradition of honey farming that stretches back millions of years. They have been raised into the tradition by their honeybee family and friends, and have devoted their lives to the art of honey.

Fun Bee Facts

The wings of the honeybee flap at about 200 beats per second- this is what makes their buzzing sound.

Bees can fly up to six miles from their hive and at as fast as 15 miles per hour.

For a hive to produce one pound of Beeswax they have to consume 8 pounds of honey.

Honeybees are the only insect that produces a food eaten by humans.

On one trip out of the hive, a bee will visit an average of 50-100 flowers.

For a honeybee to fly around the world it would only take about 1 ounce of honey to fuel it.
